House Rules for Moderation
To ensure a smooth and productive experience for all, we ask that moderators and speakers follow these guidelines:
-
Respect Everyone's Time
Each session has a strict time limit. Moderators must keep sessions on track and wrap up discussions on time.
Use a timer or visual cue if necessary. Be firm yet polite in reminding speakers of their remaining time.
-
Introduce with Purpose
Briefly introduce yourself and the track’s theme.
Offer a one-liner about each speaker before their presentation to set the context.
Keep introductions concise to maximize time for content.
-
Engage, But Stay Neutral
Maintain a welcoming and professional tone throughout.
Encourage diverse perspectives, but avoid injecting personal opinions or dominating the conversation.
Be prepared with a few open-ended questions to stimulate discussion if needed.
-
Handle Questions & Interaction Smoothly
Allocate a clear Q&A segment at the end of each session.
If questions arise during presentations, politely note them for later unless the speaker prefers real-time interaction.
Repeat or paraphrase audience questions to ensure clarity before they’re answered.
-
Be a Timekeeper & Guardian
Politely cut off speakers who exceed their allotted time or veer off-topic.
Keep the session flowing—ensure that every speaker has a fair chance to present.
Be ready to handle any technical issues swiftly and keep the audience informed.
-
Respect Privacy & Consent
Remind participants that sessions are being recorded for internal and promotional purposes.
Ensure that participants have consented to recording if they choose to speak or appear on camera.
-
No Hard Selling
Sessions are for idea-sharing and inspiration. No hard pitches, sales, or overt product placement are allowed during track sessions.
Sponsors have dedicated spaces for showcasing their products—please direct any inquiries there.
-
Keep It On-Brand & Positive
Maintain a tone that reflects GTTS’s values: inclusivity, curiosity, and collaboration.
Handle disruptions (if any) with diplomacy and calm authority.
-
Follow the WTSA Code of Conduct
All participants must adhere to the WTSA code of conduct. As a moderator, you’re empowered to remind speakers and participants of this if needed.
Please report any issues to the WTSA organizing team immediately.
