Smell, Taste and Flavor
Our sense of smell plays a crucial role in the perception of flavor, accounting for 75% to 95% of what we recognize as taste. Flavor is a complex, multisensory experience created in the brain from taste, smell, and other sensory elements like appearance, temperature, and texture. While true taste occurs on the tongue, detecting salt, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami, flavor is an amalgamation of sensory inputs with smell as a major contributor.
